Favorite Books

Among other genres, I am a big fan of historical novels.

My criteria for a great historical novel are:

  • historical authenticity and

  • a great story (of course)

I am not talking merely about "period pieces" - novels merely with an historical setting. I much prefer a novel in which I can learn something about history and encounter historical figures.

If you don't mind, I will introduce you to some of my favorite historical novels.

I will list them here and provide links to pages providing more detail.

The Saxon Stories by Bernard Cornwell

In a series of novels set during the time of the Danish invasions of England (late 9th - early 10th century AD) Uhtred of Bebbanburg yearns to regain his ancestral home while serving King Alfred of Wessex and his heirs.
